Everything else on this site assumes a reader who already knows what a scrubbing centre is, why packet rate and bandwidth are different constraints, and what happens to a session when routing goes asymmetric. This section is where those assumptions are paid for.

It is deliberately small. A foundation layer earns its place by being correct and stable rather than by being long, and a page here should still be true in three years — which is why the definitions cite standards rather than vendor overviews, and why the ones that are genuinely ambiguous say so instead of picking a side.

Start with the reference explanation if you are new to the subject, or go straight to the glossary if you arrived from a tender document with a term you did not recognise.
